I’m Vicki Thornley, a resident of Lubbock, Texas. You might ask "Where is Lubbock, Texas?" I would tell you to draw a line between Dallas, Texas and Albuquerque, New Mexico. We would be right in the middle. I‘ve been a Registered Nurse for 30 something years and now teach in a pre-licensure Registered nurse program at Covenant School of Nursing. I love seeing the light bulbs come on when a nursing student makes that connection between the books and the patient.
My philosophy of teaching has always been to provide students with a safe place to learn and grow as professionals. I want to provide them with learning opportunities as they develop as nurses, present accurate information in a way that students can use it, and fairly evaluate each student.
I have a master's degree in nursing education and hold a Certified Nurse Educator credential granted through the National League for Nursing. I worked as a clinical nurse for some 10 years before branching into the wide world of healthcare opportunities afforded to a Registered Nurse. You can view my resume for more details. I graduated from Covenant School of Nursing (CSON), then known as Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, in 1979 with the plan to work 2 years in an emergency department, 2 years in an intensive care unit and 2 years in the operating room. Then, I was going back to my alma mater to teach. Well, life intervened, but I returned home to CSON 13 years ago.
My husband and I love to travel and his photographs provide memories of those adventures. My husband and I spend a great deal of time in Arizona where 5 of our 6 grandchildren live - and their parents. Our sixth grandchild lives in Salt Lake City, UT - another favorite place to visit. I enrolled in the University of Wisconsin - Stout Graduate Certificate in E-Learning and Online Teaching program to become more familiar with online education with the goal of having more freedom to move between Texas and Arizona and still enjoy teaching.
I hope you enjoy taking a look at the progress I've made in the E-Learning and Online Education program. ~ Vicki
