Social Bookmarks: Diigo Collection
In Module 2 we joined the E-learning Educators group on the Diigo website. Diigo is a social bookmarking website that allows one to share interesting findings common to the group - in our case, E-learning. There are many forms of electronic communities in the digital world. With regards to educational communities, Palloff & Pratt (1999) point out that electronic communities are formed to meet the needs of the members (p. 23). Our Diigo E-Learning for Educator group provides us with not only the resources of interest each individual finds, but resources from all members of the group.
Creating a group is a simple process. I've already created one for our nursing school so that we can help students build a resource of reliable information beyond the required textbooks they purchase. The link will take you to my collection.

Facilitating Discussions
During Module 3 of the course we had the opportunity to facilitate a discussion forum. We chose a topic, provided a resource to our group members, and then entered a discussion prompt. For a look at the details of the assignment here's a link. Once you arrive on the page click the hyperlink and you'll be there.
My topic for discussion was Teaching and Learning with the Net Generation . An interesting prospect as so many of our youth grow up with computers and mobile devices immediately available. Here's a place to see the discussion that followed the prompt:

Navigating Moodle
During Module 4 we had the experience of creating a quiz or survey based on material we chose for our group. Navigating Moodle was a bit challenging for me as I am used to a very structured LMS with buttons and links to the program components. So it was an enlightening experience for me and created a significant increase in empathy for the new nursing students that I deal with each semester. Navigating learning management systems is definitely a learned skill. This link will take you to the launch page for Moodle but not directly to the quiz.
