Final Reflection
Working together on projects is an excellent strategy to help learners connect. This project was a demonstration of cooperative learning as described in Lehmann & Chamberlain Making the Move to ELearning: Putting Your Course Online. Cooperative learning requires learners to work together to create something. In our case, it was a tip sheet. Dr. Lehmann assigned students in pairs and opened an online room for us to meet to plan our project. My partner and I were in different small group discussion forums so we had not had the chance to interact much. We chose a task in WebEx, created the instructions and added the tips. It was a good learning project for me as I had no experience with screenshots and graphic bubbles. My partner edited the tip sheet and added some improvements. I have not been a social learner in the past so group work is generally more difficult for me. It would have been easier for me to just create the tip sheet on my own. In my practice as an online educator I will certainly use cooperative learning, but sparsely. I did add a downloadable file to the webpage for readers to access and print if desired.
Collaboration to Create a Tip Sheet
Because online learning requires interaction with ever-changing technology, tip sheets can provide quick reference information for online learners. This exercise was assigned as a paired project. Here is the final product of our collaboration.
