Universal Design for Learning (UDL) - Form 11
We had the option to earn a badge by taking Dr. Manning's UDL Apprentice course. Dr. Manning had spoken of her involvement in the badge concept earlier in the semester so I was interested to participate. Badges are a form of public recognition for meeting specific accomplishments of badge course objectives. Similar to a merit badge in Scouting only electronic. It was a very good look at the general concepts of UDL.
Universal Design for Learning encompasses many aspects of student learning. Learning designed to be accessible for all types of learners is the objective of UDL. When developing an online or really any educational program, thought must be given to many parameters during development. Conditions of the expected learners such as hardware and software availability is an example of something for consideration when designing a course. Easily navigating the website for an online course reduces learner frustration. Adding the script to a PowerPoint presentation allows for three avenues for learning in a Voice-over presentation -- visual, auditory, and text. This accommodates the multiple learning styles among students.
I completed Form 11 which outlines ways that my course would meet UDL principles and best practices. Here is my example for the Transition course.
